Doctor en Historia por la Universidad de Cambridge, fue catedr\u00e1tico de historia moderna en Kings College, Princeton (Estados Unidos) y Oxford. Es miembro de la Academia Brit\u00e1nica y de la Real Academia de la Historia. Premio Pr\u00edncipe de Asturias y Cruz de San Jorge. Sir John Elliott es uno de los m\u00e1s destacados hispanistas vivos.
